What we can do for you We provide high quality block paving around the Bristol area. We have a range of styles which are available to view on this site.
Block Paving Styles Our Block Paving is rectangular and therefore the pattern that they can be laid in is limited by that constraint. Given that the blocks can be laid in a variety of patterns to suit. Standard Rectangular blocks can be laid in the following patterns: * 90 degree Herringbone - this is the recommended layout for drives as it is the strongest design * 45 degree Herringbone * Parquet * Stretcher Bond Multisized Pavers can be laid in the following patterns: * Stretcher Bond * Offset herringbone
Ground Preparation If the area is flat, it will be necessary for drainage purposes to create a slight slope during the excavation. Compact the excavated area with the plate vibrator digging out any soft spots and filling them with sub base material. It is essential that the sub base is firm and to the right level and if there are any voids, fill them with sharp sand. Correctly level the screed with a rigid piece of timber, of screed bar, drawn along guide rails. . Lay one course of blocks on the sand, along all the edge of straights. Lay the blocks hand tight only with a join gap of 2mm - 5mm starting in one corner, and at the bottom if there is a slope. Sweep the area thoroughly after it has been laid, particularly if a block has been used, to remove all chips and fragments. Then check to ensure there are no damaged blocks, if there are any, this is the time to replace them. Compact the whole area with two or three parsons of the plate vibrator. Sweep brett jointing sand over the entire area, ensuring it gets right into all the joints between the blocks. Vibrate the whole area again to force down the jointing sand, and fill any gaps, and fill any joints that appear to be in the joints. Leave any surplus sand on the surface, for the wind / rain to wash into joints. Alternatively sweep off the surface and re sand if necessary.
Tarmacing Our initial no obligation survey will allow us to prepare an accurate written quotation to give the finish you require. For example, a driveway that has a sound foundation could just require resurfacing, where this is not the case a more complex job would be required. In these circumstances we would approach the job as follows: * Excavate to 200mm * Apply weedkiller * Lay Visqueed (Weed controlling membrane) * Type 1 stone layer - 130mm * Tarmac Base course - 40mm * Tarmac Wearing Course - 30mm * Seal all joints with bituminous material * Removal of all waste material * Clean and sweep site
Hard Landscaping and Patios Hard Landscaping differs greatly to Soft Landscaping as it involves the modification and addition of tough substances such as paving and patios rather than plants, grass and lawns. It is considered the key part of the structure of a garden because of the fact that it is solid and lays the foundations that other landscaping feature utilise. As well as being functional, Hard Landscaping should be attractive, yet keeping with the styles of the house and rest of the garden. Brickwork and clay paving are ideal for use in hard landscaping schemes. Not only does the choice of colours, textures and shapes enhance design versatility, but the performance, durability and weathering characteristics of the materials mean that schemes remain attractive over time, with very little maintenance requirements.
